Globe-shaped toilet set case

Central Europe, ca. 1830

Lacquered and polished wood intarsia and carved wood, paperboard, bone, brass. Globe-shaped toilet set case on a carved tripod base. Globe decorated throughout with walnut cube parquetry. Shellac finish polished to a high gloss. Carved band of relief acanthus leaves along the circumference. The hinged top half lifts to reveal a panel, under which are a manicure pillow, a folding mirror, a box with compartments and drawers, and lathe-turned bone knobs. The inside is lined with paper. Brass mounts and key shields.
